Native American Graves Protection & Repatriation Act

Mission

Our mission is to implement the regulations of NAGPRA and protect the common interest of the Comanche Nation in regards to human remains and cultural items.

Services

The NAGPRA office serves the Nation by performing the following duties:

  • Locate, Research, Consult, and Document items of Comanche affiliation being held in Museums and\or Federal agencies inventories across our aboriginal lands.
  • Repatriate Cultural items to Restore Comanche History back to our Youth and Communities.
  • Consult on all human remains inadvertently discovered throughout our aboriginal lands, to determine cultural affiliation. And once determined, we see that the reburial is done in a respectful matter and in respect to their cultural affiliation.

**All items that are repatriated on behalf of the Comanche Nation, control of item remains with the Comanche Nation, but possession is turned over to the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center.
