About Caregivers

The Comanche Nation has funded the Comanche Tribal Elders (Caregiver) Program since 2004. The program provides personal and basic care to tribal elders having at least two Activities of Daily Living needs. The Elders may not be able to provide care for themselves and to be on the program they must need assistance with bathing, feeding, dressing, transferring, toileting, incontinence, dementia, or Alzheimer’s Disease.  Elders may also need assistance with two Instrumental Activities of Daily Living including cooking, shopping assistance with medication, paying bills and housekeeping.  The Elders may find with aging comes chronic .conditions leading to disabilities such as heart disease, strokes, diabetes, pulmonary disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, hypertension, and vision/hearing loss. These disabilities make the need for Caregiver service more urgent.

Are you a Caregiver for an Elder and have you been assisting them with basic personal needs such as needing to be spoon-fed, needing help with bathing or showering, getting dressed, transferring, toileting, incontinence, preparing meals, dementia, or Alzheimer’s Disease.

Perhaps we can help you while you care for your Comanche Elder. The Caregiver office has applications to be completed by the Elder and the Caregiver; and a doctor’s statement that need to be filled out by the Elders’ doctor. The application and doctor’s statement need to be taken to the Caregiver Program office at the Comanche Nation Complex.

This is an elder care program and we provide services to elders first because they are our priority. The elder needs to be a member of the Comanche Nation and 62 years of age or older with the greatest need for care.

The Caregiver office is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. The Caregiver is given a stipend of $10 per hour for up to 10 hours a week to care for the Comanche Elder.

The Caregiver program provides assistance to the Caregiver and Elder for 6 months at a time. When the 6 months are over, we will start another 6-month cycle. The elders that will always need care because of aging and health conditions will be the first to receive service.
