Mission

The Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center (CNMCC) provides communities with a deepened understanding and appreciation of Comanche history, culture, and fine art.  Through exhibits, collections, preservation, and education, the Museum seeks to become a recognized resource for information about the Numunuu

Purpose

The purpose of the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center is to educate the public about the great Comanche Nation. This is achieved through the collection and preservation of Comanche artifacts and fine art and the creation of educational exhibits.

Collections at the Museum include, but are not limited to:

  • Art (paintings, works on paper, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, digital art, etc.)
  • Culturally Based Items (musical instruments, regalia, tools, etc.)
  • Historical Items (military uniforms, memorabilia, instruments, items of historical interest related to our mission, etc.)
  • Library/Archival Items (film/video footage, photographic material, books and other published and unpublished documents, audio/sound recordings, digital items)

The Museum will use items in its collections for the following purposes:

  • Exhibitions
  • Research
  • Education and Public Programming
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Promotion

Museum Priorities

  • To safeguard the Museum’s artifacts and fine art according to professional standards adopted by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM)
  • To provide a unique location where the Nation’s story is told from a Comanche perspective
  • To be a trusted resource where the public can learn firsthand about Comanche history, cultural, traditions, and fine art.     
  • To be a showplace for the Comanche Nation, a place of pride for tribal members
  • To practice fiduciary responsibility with funding designated for daily operations
  • To follow all policies and procedures set forth by the Comanche Nation
