Senior Spotlight: Kena Euddin
Senior and wrestler Kena Euddin attends Elgin High School. She has focused on and been dedicated to wrestling since freshman year.
Euddin is proud of how far she has come.
“Just my growth from freshman to senior year,” she said. “I've been on and off with wrestling, so I have not gotten state qualifier, state placer yet, but we're hoping this year I've got a pretty good chance. I got an honorable mention this year.”
Euddin has also placed first in tournaments. Academically, Euddin is on the Principal’s Honor Roll.
“I've got 4.9 GPA,” she said. “…I've maintained straight A's for the past couple years, so academics definitely also gets a lot of my time and dedication as well, so that's another great achievement of mine, I would say.”
Euddin will miss the coaches and the close-knit community but has goals for her college career.
“I got accepted into Langston University, and I plan on…going to their nursing program,” she said. “I want to be a travel agency nurse, like a labor and delivery nurse or pediatrics.”
Euddin said she’s always been passionate about caring for people, especially as an eldest daughter.
“So, I've definitely always had to…just get used to taking care of people, and I'd say it's a passion of mine, and I'm a hard worker,” she said. “I don't like to…sit down for too long. I like to be up and busy and on my feet. Obviously, I wrestle…nursing is definitely a very demanding job, and, you know, it's, we need more nurses for sure.”
Euddin said it’s hard to keep up with her culture with social media and things that consume everyday life.
“I go to powwows very often. I stay in the arena, cultural classes, just being around family, staying around family,” she said. “I would say those are the main things, the biggest to me, that are important to keeping up with my heritage. But just even graduating and wrestling, like, that is, like, an honor to all of the sacrifices that have been made for my ancestors. And I think that's also another way of keeping up with your heritage, is just doing the best for…those who came before you.”
Euddin enjoys reading, writing and art.
