Elderly Center Crowns Valentine's King and Queen

Comanche Nation Elderly Center held a Valentine’s Day party and crowned King and Queen Valentine. It was a penny-a-vote to raise funds.

Siblings David Wermy and Janis Wermy were crowned on Friday, February 14.

Janis was surprised.

“I feel very good,” she said. “I mean, it's a surprise, of course, and we've enjoyed helping raise the money for the event.”

David said he had never been crowned before, and it’s essential for the elders to be together.

“As a group of senior citizens, of course, I'm a younger one. There are elders that are a little bit older than me,” he said. “They talk about their past, their history, and it's always good to hear other stories from other tribes as well and just come together as a tribe and, you know, having friends, meet other friends.”

Janis said it’s important for the elders to be able to go to new places.

“And get to do more things and see other places and just be a part of each other, you know, the culture and learning,” she said.

Janis said she loves the Elderly Center and visits often.

The Elderly Center also gave out flowers and valentines for those at the party.
