Comanche Nation Enrollment Gives Carnival Wristbands
Comanche Nation Enrollment is giving out vouchers for carnival wristbands during the Comanche Nation Fair at the Tribal Complex.
Enrollment Director Jon Wauqua said the office will be open Friday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Sept 28, they will begin directly after the parade and end at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 29, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The age limit is 3 to 17, and a CDIB or driver’s license will be required. Enrollment can also be verified through the system.
“The wristband, it's actually not a wristband, it's a voucher. You'll take that voucher we issue to you to the carnival, and then they'll, in turn, issue you a wristband,” Wauqua said. “It's only good for that day. So, each day, you'll have to come and pick up a new voucher.”
He said the wristband voucher is a way for the kids to be involved in the Comanche Fair.
“For one, it's to help the kids come celebrate here at Comanche Fair. You know, we love our kids here at the Comanche Nation. We try to do what we can to help them out always,” Wauqua said. “But you know, I don't want, without sounding like a textbook, to answer here, they are our future. With that being said, we just love to try to help our Comanche people. And when we reached out to them, this was a good idea. And we all agreed, the fair board agreed. We thought it would be something we could do to help.”
He said he’s very active in the fair and sees the free vouchers as a way to give back.
“I like to actually partake in the powwow part of the celebration here. You know, we're real big on our culture here at Comanche Nation. And this, in turn, is a celebration of sorts for all of our people to come together,” Wauqua said. “Not just the Comanche people, but the surrounding communities and the neighboring tribes as well. This is more as a give back to the community type thing to show our appreciation. Not only for our people but for the rest of the communities in general.”
He said everyone is invited to the event.
“I would extend my invitation to everybody out there just come enjoy and partake. There's something for everybody: carnival rides, exhibits, food booths, parade. There's a horseback riding, I believe, event. And just other things going on,” Wauqua said. “There's something for everybody here. So come on out now. Join us.”
