Senior Spotlight: Jermaine Chasenah

Jermaine Chasenah is a catcher on the Walters Blue Devils Baseball Team. He also plays football and basketball.

He said his highlight was his freshman year season.

“We were really good my freshman year, and I caught a lot of that year, and we played just really good,” Chasenah said. “And then we went and battled it out against the number one team in the state and lost, but we went to Regionals, made it to Regionals and then my sophomore year, it wasn't, it wasn't as good as my freshman year, but it was an alright year. And we made it to Regionals again, and then last year we made it, we made it further, we made it to the Regional finals and got runner-up, and then now we're heading to districts.”

He said he has fun in school and will miss the environment.

“Seeing everybody at school, everybody being around each other, even though some of us don't like each other, just everybody being close,” Chasenah said. “And then obviously just playing sports.”

He said he’s enjoyed playing baseball.

“It's really fun. There were great, great kids and great guys,” Chasenah said. “It can be tough sometimes, but I wouldn't want to play for any other team.”

He said he plans on playing college baseball.

“I haven't decided where,” Chasenah said. “And if that didn't work out, then I just plan on going and becoming a firefighter.”

He said he’s always been interested in becoming a firefighter.

“Like a year or two ago, my dad became a volunteer firefighter,” Chasenah said. “And I just like being able to save people and just being able to do good in the world.”

Chasenah said his grandmother keeps him connected to his Comanche heritage.

“She likes beading; she teaches me a lot. She tells me a lot, tells me stories from her day,” he said. “And then we have Miss Johnson at school, at our school, and she teaches a lot of us a lot of things. We learn about a lot in our Native Studies class.”

Chasenah said the team made it to Area this year, and he had fun and played well in his last game.
