Comanche Nation Princess Gives Back to Community

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Comanche Nation Princess McKenzi Sovo held a shelter drive for Comanche Nation programs.

She said she wanted to give back to the Comanche people and those who may have a limited number of families.

“It's just really hard for people who are in the women's shelter, the youth shelter, and then the rehabilitation center,” Sovo said. “It can be hard because a lot of your family might not be around or in your life, and it's pretty hard. So, I just want to do this and be able to give back to them and give them a little bit of enjoyment to their holiday season.”

She said it’s important because it’s Christmastime.

“A lot of people like to get gifts, and I'm more of a gift giver, and I like to give. And I think that Christmas is a lot about giving gifts,” Sovo said. “And I think it's good to give back to these people during this time because they don't have families to celebrate Christmas with, or some of them can't celebrate Christmas with their families. So, this brings them a little bit more like a spark of joy to their holiday season, make them feel a little bit happier during the Christmas season because they might not be happy because their families aren't around as much and things like that. So, we really want to bring happiness to them and make them feel good and make their holidays a lot better.”

She said the gifts were necessity-based.

“We have a lot of winter clothes since it's getting very cold,” Sovo said. “So, we do want to give them socks, gloves, coats, winter coats, thick jackets and maybe some clothes here and there; toiletry items like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, little loofahs to scrub with, little stuff like that to help them out, essentials.”

She said she enjoyed giving back to those in the community.

“I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I like to make people happy and make people smile,” Sovo said. “So, giving back to the community and those in need, it really makes me feel good inside just to be able to put a smile on their face and make them a little more happier during a time where they might not be as happy as others might be who have their families and who have people on their side. So, it's really a good thing for us to do because it just brings joy to them and happiness a little bit, even though they might not be too happy with things that's going on with them right now. But we try and help them with a little bit of joy, you know, as much as we can.”

She donated the gifts on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

“I would also like to wish everyone, as well as the Comanche people,Tsaa nʉʉsukatʉ wahimarʉ̠, a Merry Christmas and also have a Happy New Year and God bless you all,” Sovo said.

The Comanche Nation Little Ponies gave a donation of $100. She plans to host another drive before the end of her reign.
