Senior Spotlight: Austin Elam

Austin Elam wears #12 and is a senior at Elgin High School and is a receiver for the Elgin Owls football team.

 

Elam is a decedent of the Noyaka Clan on his Chibitty side and related to Chief Moway on his Saupitty side.

 

He comes from a long line of warriors, including Woogie Watchetaker and code talkers Charles Chibitty and Larry Saupitty.

 

He competes in wrestling, track and trap shoot outside of football.

 

Elam is self-motivated and wants to be a firefighter after high school.

 

“Just family that’s been firefighting…well for a few years now,” he said. “I got on the department in Paradise Valley, and it’s fun.”

 

Outside of school, Elam is very active outdoors.

 

“I just grew up doing it,” he

 

Elam said stepping on the field is a great feeling.

 

“It feels great, I don’t know how else to put it, just block everything out; big adrenaline rush,” he said.

 

The Elgin Owls made playoffs this year.

 

“it’s the first time in a while you know we went my first three years, freshman, sophomore and junior year were rough, but this year it’s been a dream to make playoffs,” he said.

 

Elam said it was fun to play football while it lasted.
