High Schools Begin First Day of Basketball Tournament

Teams tipped off the 2023 Comanche County High School Basketball Tournament at the Great Plains Coliseum, which began on January 16 and will end on January 21.

 

Last night, the girls’ games began with Sterling Tigers and Junior Varsity Elgin Owls, with the Tigers taking a quick lead. Sterling tigers were up near the half of the second quarter with Owls scoreless until Kelly Langford, number 32, got two.

 

The score at half would be the Tigers 25 and Owls 4.

The Tigers would get two free throws in at the start of the half after the Owls foul. Morgan Curry of the Tigers would be quick to score within the first minute after for three.

During the second half, Owls will make 17 points, 11 of those in the third quarter.

 

 The Tigers would go on to beat the Owls 57 to 21.

 

After that, Walters Blue Devils and Inidahoma Warriors would face off, and the Blue Devils would be quick to score. Later, Emma Youngblood would achieve within 2 minutes of the game starting.

 

The Warriors would break the Blue Devils’ scoring streak, with Warrior Emily Martinez ending the half with two points.

 

During the third quarter, Becky Burgess of the Warriors would sink two, and Ona Johnson would make a free throw.

 

At the top of the fourth quarter, Warrior Tayah Kaudle-Kaulay would make a three, and the Blue Devils ended it with Jessie Ototivo making a two-pointer with 30 seconds left in the game.

Walters won 68 to 9.

 

Chattanooga Warriors would quickly score against the Fletcher Wildcats and hold Fletcher scoreless in the first quarter of the game.

 

Wildcat number 3, Kaitlyn Avila, would respond with about three minutes left of the first half with a three-pointer.

 

Warriors would score about midway through the second quarter, and Wildcats would respond in the second half. Their game would be 28 to 7 at halftime.

 

The trend would continue until the game ends in Chattanooga 50, Fletcher 20.

 

The tournament ended its first day with Big Pasture playing Geronimo.

 

Geronimo Blue Jays would begin the game a minute in with a score after Big Pasture Rangers made a free throw.

 

The first quarter is tied 7 to 7.

 

During the second quarter, the Blue Jays would begin the second quarter with a two-pointer. McKenzie Huffman would make another two-pointer with 6 minutes and 30 seconds left of the quarter. And continue with another two points 2 minutes later.

 

At the 4-minute mark, Blue Jay Chrissa Gomez would make a solid three.

 

The half would end with the Rangers making a 2-pointer, bringing the score 27 to 13.

 

The third quarter would begin with the Blue Jays scoring within seconds of the start, and they then began to dominate the third quarter.

 

With Blue Jay, number 10, McKenzie Huffman, answering to a Rangers 1-point free throw with about a minute left of quarter, ending Geronimo 42 to Big Pasture 19.

 

The fourth quarter would continue with the Blue Jays and Rangers only allowing six more points for either team.

 

The final score would be Geronimo 48, Big Pasture 25.

 

Games will continue today beginning at 4:30, where the boys Cache will face off against Big Pasture.

 

The girls' games will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with Indiahoma versus Big Pasture.
