Comanche Nation Chairman Visits Cheyenne Arapaho Tribe
Thursday, October 6, Comanche Nation Chairman Mark Woommavovah honored the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes for their contribution of two buffalo for the butchering which was September 26.
“Well, today we are here for two reasons,” he said. “The first is we’re here to honor Reggie Wassana, their chairman, for donating two buffalos to the Comanche Nation for our Comanche Nation Fair, so we’re going to honor him with a Pendleton. And the second reason we’re here is for the Sovereignty Run. It’s to honor the world’s greatest athlete Jim Thorpe.”
Woommavovah said it was a great honor to receive the buffalo for the butchering.
“It just shows the partnership that we have with other tribes and it gave us an opportunity to show our cultural pride in how we harvest a buffalo,” he said. “And our program brought that harvesting to our people and it was simply amazing.”
Woommavovah said it’s important to recognize the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes to build a relationship and connect.
“We want to build a connection with all of our tribal leaders and this a good start; to participate in events that they have and they invited us, so when they invite us we come,” he said.
