Alumni Association & Activities

The “New Pathways’ Alumni Association” was created in 2002 and consists of former clients of New Pathways. It has continued to grow over the years. The Alumni Association has formed many annual events and activities throughout the years, such as:

An Annual “Alumni Reunion” is held in June. It includes a meal, an AA speaker, an event t-shirt, quarterly awards, and a chip call for continuous sobriety. Former Clients are encouraged to continue their sobriety and spread the message to others to achieve sobriety. Client of the Quarter Awards are announced.

The “Four Winds Wellbriety Group” was formed with Certified Facilitators in 2002 and registered with the White Bison Wellbriety Movement. Weekly meetings are held onsite every Monday at 5:30 p.m. Wellbriety® is a cultural approach to recovery from alcoholism, substance abuse, and intergenerational trauma based on the values taught in the 12 Steps and Medicine Wheel.

An Annual “Four Winds Wellbriety Talking Circle” was created in 2003 and held in September, with a meal and an event t-shirt. A Talking Circle is a traditional and effective way to seek healing that nurtures connections and empathy while honoring the uniqueness of each participant. It helps remove barriers and ensures all voices are heard respectively.

An Annual “Oklahoma Wellbriety Summer Gathering” hosted by Four Winds Wellbriety Group was created in 2020 and held in June at Lake Lawtonka in Lawton, OK. A meal and an event t-shirt are provided, as a Talking Circle, Sobriety Count Down, Fellowship, Swimming, Games, Camping, Fishing & more! The gathering consists of Wellbriety® groups throughout SW Oklahoma.

The Alumni Association created “Spirit Winds AA” on 7·7·7, and the group is registered with the Oklahoma AA General State of Office. An Annual Celebration is held in July, with a guest speaker, meal, and t-shirts. Weekly Alcoholics Anonymous® meetings are held onsite every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and a speaker/potluck meeting is held the last week of the month.

Members of the Spirit Winds AA group and other AA members abroad created the “All Nations Rally” in 2009. The annual Native All Nations AA Rally is held in November at Quartz Mountain Lodge in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. This is a gathering of Native Americans in recovery, sharing their experiences from the podium and bonfire, games, and traditional meals. Clients participate throughout the year in the planning of this event, and the rally continues to grow each year.

New Pathways co-sponsors the “Annual Spirit Walk,” held on Sunday at the Annual Comanche Nation Fair. The walk is organized to honor those “fighting the good fight” by walking the Red Road (maintaining sobriety). The walk is essentially a sobriety and wellness walk, and individuals walk to show their support for a loved one who is suffering or who may have lost their life from the disease of alcoholism and/or other addictions. An Elder will smudge everyone and then speak encouraging words before the walk begins. T-shirts and refreshments are provided along with a Tribal Police/EMT escort.
