Tribal Member Participates in New Mexico Fashion Show

Comanche Nation tribal member Hayden Cable walked in a fashion show for Choke Cherry Creek on Wednesday, April 24, at the Santa Ana Star Casino in Bernalillo, New Mexico.

“Last year at National UNITY, we were in Washington, D.C., and a couple of our youth got to enter into it with Redberry Woman and walk for her and model her clothing,” she said. “And I just got really interested in it, helping and assisting them into getting into the whole process, the auditions and all of it. I just thought it was so fun. And so, I thought of wanting to take that step for myself.”

Cable said she saw a flyer music artist Antonine reposted for The Deadly Indian Party event which featured designer Angela Howe-Parrish.

“Whenever I seen who was designers, I reached out to her Instagram, her personal Instagram, and reached out for that event,” she said. “And whenever she got back to me, she actually asked me to model for this show on the 24 and for the 27.”

The fashion show was the first one Cable participated in.

“I'm a little nervous, but the designer, Angela, she's given me a lot of support to where I feel like I can go out there and do my thing,” she said.

Cable said she looks forward to the opportunities that will come from this event.

“I'm hoping that maybe I could, you know, get another show, possibly be booked for another show, or just even getting into this as the next level, you know, maybe finding fashion as my passion,” she said.

Cable said she was able to meet the other Choke Cherry Creek models.

“There's people who came in from Montana. There's people who came in from Arizona. So, it was crazy to just get to know them a little bit and their background. Most of them are moms. This isn't their first time,” she said.“So, it's just nice to get to know everybody's, like how long that they've been in this field and like how I can gain or use that for my experience. And I've been taking a lot of their advice, which is just to be comfortable, be myself, and just go out there and do my thing.”

Cable said she did a raffle to raise funds to be at the fashion shows and appreciated those who donated.
