Teams Begin Third Day of Competition at Great Plains Coliseum
The 2023 Comanche County High School Basketball Tournament continued with Indiahoma Warriors versus Big Pasture Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, at the Great Plains Coliseum.
Within 30 seconds of the first quarter, Big Pasture was up by two, with a response from Indiahoma’s Tayah Kaudle-Kaulay for three.
Big Pasture would score three more points tying the game five to five.
Indiahoma’s Ona Johnson put two points on the board in the second quarter.
Rangers would finish the half 21 to 9.
Warriors Becky Burgess would score with two minutes left in the third and finish the quarter 31 to 12 with Rangers in the lead.
The Warriors would double their points in the fourth quarter.
The Rangers won 42 to 27.
Fletcher Wildcats and Elgin Owls tipped off their game, with Elgin scoring the first two points.
Wildcats would hold off the Owls and finish eight to four at the end of the first quarter.
Two of those points were scored by Owls Kennidi Sanders and Jazman Simmons.
In the second, Elgin would score five more points, including one from Owl Simons, but would be down at the half, 17 to 9.
In the third, Wildcats would hold Owls scoreless, finishing 26 to 9.
Owls begin the fourth with a two-pointer and maintain momentum.
The final score would be Fletcher 31 to Elgin 21.
Next to tip-off were Walters Blue Devils and Geronimo Blue Jays.
Walters began the game with a three-pointer. About 2 minutes in, Geronimo would get their first point from McKenzie Huffman and a three-pointer.
The first quarter would end Blue Devils 11 and Blue Jays 5.
In the second, Geronimo scored three.
Blue Devil Emma Youngblood sinks two.
The half would finish with Walters 23, Geronimo 14 and the quarter would end with Walters 35 and Geronimo 24.
The Blue Devils kept a scoring streak for most of the fourth until Blue Jay Chrissa Gomez put up two more points on the board.
Walters finishes the game 51 to 28.
Sterling Tigers and Chattanooga Warriors battled it out during their game with a tie of 8 to 8 in the middle of their first quarter.
With a minute left, Tiger Morgan Curry would make a three, and the Warriors scored one more point at the end, making it Sterling 11, Chattanooga 9.
The next quarter would start with the Warriors tying the Tigers 11 to 11.
Sterling would allow nine more points to get by, finishing behind 20 to 16 at the half.
During the third quarter, Chattanooga would start strong before Tiger Ashlyn Clift made a three-pointer about two minutes in.
The quarter would tie with 1:46 left thanks to a two-pointer from Tiger Clift, making it 27 to 27.
The Warriors would create a four-point lead ending it 31 to 27.
Onto the fourth, with three minutes left, the game was tied 34 to 34 and broken with a free throw from the Tigers.
The Warriors would make two creating a score of 36 to 35, with a response from Sterling making it 37 to 36 after two free throws.
With 2.2 seconds left of the game, the Tigers scored two making the final score Sterling 41 and Chattanooga 39.
This Saturday, Big Pasture will begin the championship rounds at 11 a.m. against Fletcher for the Consolation Finals; at 2 p.m. A game between Geronimo and Chattanooga will determine third place, while championships between Walters and Sterling will be at 6:30 p.m.
The boys will play between their games.
