Senior Spotlight: Diego Ramirez
Indiahoma Warrior Diego Ramirez plays power forward on the basketball team.
He also plays Halo and 2K in esports.
“I guess it was just a hobby; it just gave me something to do, get out of school,” Ramirez said.
In baseball, he plays third base and left fielder.
Ramirez had several accomplishments throughout high school career, but his biggest ones were in esports and basketball.
“Getting third place a few years ago in Halo and going pretty far a few years ago in basketball,” he said.
Ramirez said he believes the team could have gone farther that year.
“It felt great because it was my first year playing for high school. I mean, I didn't really play that much, but when I did, it was kind of helpful,” he said.
Ramirez said he’ll miss his friends, including JJ McClung, who also plays on the basketball team.
“He's like a brother,” he said. “We're with each other a lot. We're here with each other with our ups and downs.”
The community is also very close to Ramirez when it comes to playing sports.
“It's like a family. We're so small. Everybody's friends and family here,” he said. “Everybody knows each other, so it's just like a big family here.”
Ramirez said if the offer arose, he would come back and help Indiahoma with esports, but he would like to be an electrician. Ramirez goes to vo-tech for electrical work.
“I just wanted to work with my hands, and I heard they make decent money,” he said.
To keep in touch with his culture, Ramirez attends powwows, but he also went to UNITY and enjoyed culture night the most.
“It was fun. It was interesting learning about all kinds of other cultures and how similar we are and not as similar we are,” he said.
Ramirez said it’s important to keep in touch with your culture.
