OKC Outreach Celebrates New Location
Comanche Nation Oklahoma City Outreach held a grand-opening open house on Thursday, April 13.
Comanche Nation Oklahoma City Outreach Director Mary Austin had worked with the tribe for about ten years. She started at the outreach in January 2023 and became director when they switched locations.
“We moved from a smaller location to a more newer, more modern location for our tribal members,” she said. “We have basically redesigned the office itself to allow for a comfortable space as well as the size. Being able to host bigger events, more events, things in that area.”
The outreach offers many services to those who can’t make it to the Comanche Nation Tribal Complex.
“We have a lot of the programs that we work with hand in hand for our tribal members, whatever they can do in the office we can do here as far as filling out applications to assist our tribal members,” Austin said. “Whatever they're in need of, we work side by side with that office.”
Tribal members are also able to vote at the location.
Austin said the open house is important to the opening of the location.
“To let our tribal members know, ‘Hey we're here, we're open, this is yours, this is for y'all. Come in, feel welcomed, and grab a bite to eat and meet some of the apartments that we have that are able to assist,’” she said.
Austin said there are goals to host more events for tribal members.
“I know one of the events that we are looking forward to in the future is a moccasin making class,” she said. “Also, being able to bring our Comanche language class back into this office and to have a space for them to have the classes and readily available for other tribal members. Also, just for it to be a common place for people, for our tribal people.”
Tribal leaders, including Comanche Business Committee members, Tribal Administrator and Chairman, were at the event.
The new building is located at 8014 N Western Avenue in Oklahoma City.
