Kenny Wermy Commits to University of Oklahoma
Cache Bulldog Kenny Wermy has committed to playing football for the University of Oklahoma and will major in business.
“I've always been intrigued with just like entrepreneurship growing up and watching all these business people around the world and it's just inspired me to go that route,” he said.
Wermy recently signed up with the team and will attend practice in June; he will most likely be on the offensive line. Wermy said he’ll have to work to be a starter.
“Work all around, like work in the classroom, work on the field, the weight room, everywhere,” he said.
Wermy said he’s excited to be at OU.
“A new experience, just to be able to go to college and then practice with those guys,” he said. “See what game is like…actually being on the team and then just really just being like a part of it.”
Wermy said it’s inspiring to be playing at OU coming from Cache.
“Being able to, especially…show others, like it doesn't matter what kind of school you come from, as long as you work hard for it, it's easy to, well not easy, but it's like being able to achieve something that big,” he said.
Being able to play was Wermy’s favorite part about high school football from freshman to senior year. His personal highlights were when he got pancakes.
“Just being able to execute blocks and then finishing them, like what we call them, we call them pancakes,” Wermy said. “So, like it's when we take our, the guy that we're blocking and they end up on the ground. That's what we call a pancake. So, mainly those are just my highlights of offensive line is just getting pancakes.”
He said being connected to his heritage doesn’t seem like it will be a problem.
“So, I'm lucky that it's not that far away from here and there is more Native American people over there and I'm just an hour away from my tribe and my family here and it's all just Native Americans,” he said. “So, really just not going too far from where like Native Americans are.”
