Julian Love Signs for Northern Oklahoma College
Julian Love, the catcher for the MacArthur Highlander baseball team, has signed for Northern Oklahoma College.
“It was definitely a big accomplishment because I've been working for it for so long,” he said. “I didn't really think I'd play college baseball when I first started because I started kind of late. So, it was definitely a good feeling to go ahead and sign somewhere.”
He said that when he visited the college, it felt like home.
“It felt like I knew, it almost felt like I knew the coach when I met him,” Love said. “That's what it kind of felt like. I was just like, you know, I want to go somewhere where I'll know I'll like it. So, I thought NOC was probably the best bet for me.”
Love said he is working on playing at a Division 1 school within a year or two.
He has a batting average of .390, 28 hits and 9 Home Runs; Love also has 30 RBIs and 16 strikeouts.
Last year, he was the silver slugger for his team. However, another highlight of Love’s was in the Bo Bowman game, where the team beat Bishop McGuinness 6 to 1.
“That game and probably last year against Fort Cobb, I went like 4-4 against him with like a home run, two doubles,” Love said. “It was a good game for sure.”
He’s won the Bo Bowman twice.
“That's a big deal to me just because my stepdad was the Bo Bowman MVP, so it's like, and I think he only won one, so now I have two,” Love said. “It's pretty cool.”
And although the season is coming to a close, he said he has enjoyed playing on the team.
“It's like a roller coaster,” Love said. “Like, we get in trouble, we have to run, and then you know we're laughing about the next day and it's just a roller coaster for sure. It's definitely a fun time though, I've loved all four years of it.”
Love said his support comes from his mom. He said he’s always loved his mom growing up and has always been an important connection.
“I mean, she's the biggest thing in my life basically,” Love said. “She's kind of helped me through everything. She's supported me throughout everything, and basically her, of course, I've got my sister and all of them over there, but mainly my mom for sure.”
He has participated in Suicide Prevention and Recovery and the Lawton Public Schools Native American Club.
