Comanche Nation Jr. Princess Hosts Outgoing Powwow

On Saturday, March 29, Comanche Nation Jr. Princess Arlene Schonchin held her outgoing powwow at Watchetaker Hall.

She said she had an amazing time representing the Comanche Nation.

“It's been so amazing. I had such a good reign. And I had so many support that I could not have done it without people telling me that I'm doing a good job,” Schonchin said. “And it felt amazing being one of the ambassadors for the Comanche Tribe. And I had so many young girls look up to me, and I'm very humbled because I used to look up to princesses. And knowing that I am a role model makes my heart so happy.”

She said her favorite event was going with Comanche Indian Veterans Association to France for the 80th D-Day Commemoration. It was her first time being out of the country.

“It was different, honestly, because no one really understood English. And they had such amazing food, oh my goodness,” Schonchin said. “And it was just different because no one really sees Native Americans. So, it felt like I was a celebrity over there because everyone just always pointed and, like, took pictures with me and, like, smiled at me. And, honestly, it felt so amazing being there.”

She said upcoming Jr. Princess Tatum Burgess would do an amazing job representing the tribe.

“I'm excited to crown her, and I'm just, I'm hoping that she has an amazing, I know she will have an amazing reign because, you know, the Lord's always walking with us,” Schonchin said. “And I know the Lord will watch over her as she carries on this title. And so, I just wish Tatum the best of luck, and I know that she will have an amazing year.”

She said she was happy to have family from several states come in and celebrate with her.

“And we're going to celebrate this moment together, and we'll have these memories forever,” Schonchin said.

She wanted to also thank the Comanche Nation for giving her this opportunity to represent the tribe and support her during her reign.

Schonchin plans to run for Comanche Nation Princess as soon as she’s able to.
