Comanche Basketball Team Plays All-Star Game
On Saturday, April 13, players on the Nami Nu basketball team were nominated to play in an All-Star game during a tournament at Eisenhower Middle School.
Scarlett Codynah and Madison Bucktrot were on the Blue Team, while Mesa Tahchawwickah and Doniella Sherman were on the Red Team.
Codynah said she trained for the game.
“It feels exciting and good [because] I've been training all week since I knew about it,” she said.”
Codynah also had a couple of highlights with the basketball team.
“My first three-pointer and meeting everybody and stuff like that,” she said.
Codynah said she was excited about her three-pointer.
“[Because] we get three points and stuff,” she said. “I was just so happy at that moment.”
Codynah said being on a Comanche team feels good.
“It was exciting to know that I was on an all-Comanche team,” she said.
Codynah said Nami Nu was in a competitive and fun game.
“We were in the three versus three, and my team got first place,” she said.
Bucktrot said being on an all-Comanche team and making it to the All-Star game felt great.
“We would always play around when we're, like, sitting out,” she said.
As for Bucktrot’s best moment…
“I was in the game, and I only had, like, two teammates,” she said. “It was a three-player thing, and I got in third place.”
Bucktrot said she felt great and happy about the win.
Tahchawwickah said she has progressed throughout the season and improved her shooting.
“Actually, when I was like before I even started basketball, I wasn't really good, and when I came up to this…league, I started…doing much better,” she said.
Tahchawwickah said a game in Oklahoma City was one of her best team moments.
“When we hold so we had this, I call them bronze because they look like bronze. They were, like, blue and, like, pink, then we went to Oklahoma City, and we played against this…native team, and we [held] them to two,” she said. “It was one of our best moments.”
Tahchawwickah said being on a Comanche team is unique.
“It feels good because not lots of Comanche teams are out there like, maybe like in Oklahoma City and like Arizona maybe like that places but never in Oklahoma like in or like Cache, Lawton, places like that,” she said.
Sherman said she enjoyed playing in the All-Star game.
“It's actually my first time being in an all-star-like game,” she said.
Sherman’s best moment was winning at the start of the season.
“Whenever I started to play on Nami Nu, whenever we won our first game, that was my best moment,” she said.
Sherman was also glad to be on a team with other Comanches.
“Best moments [are] just playing with them,” she said.
