Cache Bulldog Commits to Lyon College
Cache Bulldog Kyree Coleman has committed to play football as wide receiver and defensive back for Lyon College in Arkansas and signed on Wednesday, May 1.
“First, I was nervous, but right now I feel happy because, you know, I finally have a permanent school I can go to and get ready for; focus on that,” he said.
Coleman said it was a difficult decision to pick his university.
“To college, and I wanted to get a little bit away from home but not too far away, and then I felt like when I visited, I like a community,” he said. “I feel like they accept a lot, and I feel like it's also great for my education.”
Coleman said he’s going to major in psychology and minor in accounting.
“It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to major in,” he said. “But I think I want to major in it because, you know, there's a lot of people with mental health out there that I feel like need some psychology and maybe some therapy to help them do it.”
Coleman said his accounting minor will also help his sister in the future.
“My sister wants to do, like, a job like get her own business running up and I was thinking about minoring in accounting just so I can help her out,” he said.
Coleman said his first day will be August 10. He’ll work all summer to prepare for college football by staying conditioned and lifting weights.
“In this summer, I'm going to be attending the Native American All-State game for football, and I'm also doing one for basketball,” he said. “Maybe one for baseball if it fits into all of that.”
Coleman wanted to thank everyone, especially his family, who helped him through the years.
“My mom put together all this stuff. It was a lot and they've also helped me push me through all these challenges and hard times I've been through and they've been there my whole life,” he said. “I just want to thank them.”
Coleman also received a coin of excellence from Comanche Nation Chairman Mark Woommavovah.
