Comanche Nation Language Department

Mission 

Our mission is to revitalize and reclaim the Comanche Language to guide and assist our Comanche People in learning our language, culture, history and teachings.

 

Nahmaʔai tanʉ nʉmʉniwʉnʉ! Let’s all speak Comanche together!

 

The Comanche Nation Language Department provides language services for the Comanche Nation. These services include language materials, curriculum development, immersion classes, in-person community classes, online classes, a centralized language archive and database, outreach for language planning and development and commitment to building infrastructure for successful language work, as a welcoming environment and an accessible community resource, recording studio, and mixed media room open to tribal members, educators, and language learners.
 
HISTORY
This community effort has many stake holders ranging from tribal employees, tribal programs, community language learners & instructors, the Native American Church, the Comanche Language & Cultural Preservation Committee, and our tribal leadership that wanted a clear vision for reclamation of the Comanche Language. Bridging these gaps with the assistance of the Comanche Language and Planning group, the Comanche Nation Language Department was proposed officially on the floor of the 2018 Comanche Nation General Council and was approved for funding for the FY

 

Services 
  • Continuing the ongoing task of making accessible language materials, archives, and digital resources for our community
     
  • Mailing out of resource materials as well as developing accessible online material available for language learners. 
     
  • Develop curriculum for textbooks & workbooks for immersion pilots, camps, public & charter schools.
     
  • Offering space for Comanche Nation members, language instructors & learners on-site for resources, media/recording, and research. 
     
  • Offering drop-in times for immersion classes that continue daily from 8:30-11:30. 
     
  • Comanche Language Certification
