Star House

Reclaiming our history, the Quanah Parker Star House restoration effort In the past several months, various news organizations, non-profits, and universities contacted the Comanche Nation with an outpouring of support for the emergency stabilization of Quanah Parker Star House in Cache, Oklahoma. With the recent flooding, the house is in immediate danger of collapse.

In recent years, many interested parties made requests to the owner of purchasing the home, or have it put into a non-profit status to help its funding. The Comanche Nation, recently called together the Parker family along with the owners, to hear what they want for the future of the historic house. Given the Comanche history of the home, they all are in agreement for restoration to the original condition.

One of the interested parties, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, supplied a grant to officially report what needs to be done to stabilize the home. This is important to any future fundraising efforts, as it legitimizes the process and was overseen by the Oklahoma Historic Society.

While the Comanche Nation does not own the home, they are working with the owners and the extended Parker family on a financial structure that allows for the home to receive non-profit, private and public funding, including tax credits.

The Comanche Nation also believes they should be done ones to fight for the Comanche history and culture, as the Quanah Parker Star House represents an important icon of Oklahoma. This effort is still forming and an announcement will be made when the non-profit launches. The entire community will be continually updated during this milestone journey.
